This Goode Classic Is Her Favorite Tune

If you've ever tuned in to the Murphy Goode TV blog (you're here now silly rabbit) then you likely know that I, Lifestyle Correspondent Kamary Phillips, left my big love, our home in Hamburg Germany and marriage talks behind, in search of A REALLY GOODE JOB in Sonoma County, California. Somewhere I have never been before. And just like a situation from any modern day scripted reality TV series, it's been an uphill and rocky road for our now long distance love affair ever since.

Despite new promises of a marriage in Sonoma should I actually land the position with the acclaimed Alexander Valley winery Murphy Goode (http://MurphyGoodeWinery.com) and a myriad of weekly Skypings, it's been no easy task calming a woman's yearning for the man she loves and repairing the damage made by a sudden, career driven separation. Men suck. Yes, me too.

In this clip, I found myself wandering in a random pub near closing time somewhere in Southern California hankering for a tall, frothy pint of Murphy Goode wine. Ok, I lied. It was Newcastle. Anyway, I had the idea to sing her one of her favorite diddies since it happened to be karaoke night.

Was the gesture enough for another moment of happiness? Will she jump the next airbus over the pond and join her man-to-be? Will your karaoke exploits be welcome additions to future Murphy Goode TV episodes? Will I come up with any more exciting inquiries?

Tune the heck in and find out! Follow Murphy Goode TV and me @MurphyGoodeTV on Twitter.

Thanks for reading.
Cheers!

Why I Want A Really Goode Job

*I wrote this weeks ago following my telephone interview, as part of the original application process. Though no longer officially needed I think it's important information to acknowledge before voting me out of the running.*

Let me begin by impressing upon you, the reader, that more than wanting this job I really need this Goode job. And why should my needs surpass that of any other candidate? Good question. Now let me explain.

Around the height of George Bush Sr.'s shenanigans, when many people were fed up with the direction the country was headed, there was a surge of folks leaving America in search of a better life. I was one of those folks. At that time and that specific place in time I simply didn't feel as if I belonged here. I migrated with several hundred thousand others to the shores of Europe.

Once there, I established myself within the artist communities of London England and Munich Germany. Though fortunate enough to find success as a Musician and eventually a New Media Content Producer, I always longed to return to the land from which I came. I discovered the hard way just how difficult it is to return 'home' beyond that of a simple family visit. I found it damn near impossible. Much had changed for me over 13 years abroad. America had changed and I dare say for the worst. So I had resolved myself to remaining a European. A German and American citizen to be exact.

Towards the last two years of Bush #2's illustrious Presidential career (yeah, right) I learned about a young Senator named Barack Obama and together with several hundred thousand hopeful Europeans began following the course of this gentleman's journey to the White House. In our view it was a second chance for America. In my view, it was another chance for me to be American. Sure, I've always been American on paper but had nothing I could relate with beyond family and friends. Now, was my chance! At least that's what I chose to believe and still do to this day.

Being an Expatriate meant having had the chance to vote many weeks before the whole of the US nation. While casting my vote I had a deep, inner belief of the outcome which we all witnessed in November '08. I had made preparations to move to California just weeks before the election and things went quite according to plans, almost.

America, though ready for a black President, didn't seem as ready for me; a black guy from Germany. I had an awful time finding work which could be attributed to my poor timing. My talents and services were warmly welcomed however unaffordable to each establishment with whom I met. How could I know that the United States would fall in to such a major Recession at a time when I needed her security and more importantly, her money the most. And California was exceptionally hit hard compared to the rest of the nation. Needless to say, it didn't take long for my limited funds to expire thus an urgent need to return to my beloved Germany quickly arose. I left beaten, broke but somehow still very optimistic. It was only then, when back on European soil, that I discovered this was not an American issue. It was a global one. My next plan was a simple one; Raise more capital and have another go at it.

A few weeks in to what I considered a "working vacation", I got word of A REALLY GOODE JOB from someone near to me who worked for Kendall Jackson. While hanging out with Dave Ready Jr. he got wind of this great opportunity and since knowing my professional background, current strife and my longing to return to America, immediately told me to "get on it" and give it 100%. I've been doing that since I joined this crazy-hyped ride in early May.

It is quite simply my intention to be awarded the position of Wine Country Lifestyle Correspondent, do a hell of a brilliant job, earn some money and finally have a respectable leg to stand on such that I may finally establish myself in America once again. I plan to build my own media business here, gear I seriously need to purchase, establish a credit rating, rent a decent flat and invite my big love to join me here to marry in Sonoma, assuming she's not tired of all this already!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Thanks for reading.

Cheers,
Kamary Phillips, WCLC

Goode Countdown Continues Overtime

Winding down.

For some it's a sad time, particularly those that got completely caught up in the A REALLY GOODE JOB rush. It wasn't difficult to let happen. I certainly had my moments. A classic Kamary, "Ok, need a break. Back in some hours or maybe tomorrow." Yeah, right! I'd usually pop back up again with the next hour or so with some nonsense or other to Tweet about. I know, I'm not alone.

I for one am quite happy things are coming to a slow close because only then can we get on to the next phase of all this. DA TAP FIDDY. Or in regular old English terms, The Top Fifty. So, in case you forgot the swing of things;

Countdown dates:

  • June 19: Application period closes
  • June 26: Top 50 candidates chosen
  • July 7: Top 10 announced
  • July 14-18: Final interviews
  • July 21: Candidate selection announced
  • Aug. 15: Report to duty!

Of course I have no substantiating evidence or tangible facts supporting any such claim but I AM GOING TO MAKE DA TAP TIN. I know, at the risk of sounding cocky I say that, however I have seen a great many of the applicants clips and if staying 100% true to the original video requirements is indeed a requirement (including 1 minute or less!), many videos simple do not qualify. Based purely from a technical perspective, I should be in the Top 50. MANY videos don't nor shouldn't qualify, according to an MGtv independent poll. Please cast your opinion too!

One thing is certain, I'm happy (as should you be) I'm not the one doing the elimination part. Admittedly, I have several favorite videos and more than a few are well over 60 seconds. But if I were judging, all overtime videos (excluding my friends) would be the first to go. Like I said, be happy I'm not choosing. I wouldn't even watch the others so I would never have to feel bad for deleting their raw awesomeness. Too bad they didn't follow directions I'd say, and thus be able to sleep soundly at night. :)

It was a real challenge making my video statement in 60 seconds and I know many others feel the same way. So thinking about it like that, I for one hope that following directions is important in the final selection but there's no way to know that until my 'MGtv Embedded Reporter' gets back to me. :) You'll be the second to know. So stay tuned in to Murphy Goode TV and see just how they do it. Exciting, eh?

Cheers,

Kamary

Now For Something Completely Different

I had mentioned in a few viral environments that I wanted to take a break from the world of Murphy Goode today as I simply felt like I needed time away from my computer.

Well, that lasted all but a few hours and will continue after this posting. :) I'll split it into something very personal (in a public sort of way) and another clip relevant to the MG Compaign. A clip I really dig.

First some late night music creation. It's the kind of song lyrically intended for all those in a relationship and managing it through all sorts of weather. Mine, personally, is rocky at present and this Murphy Goode ride isn't always so good truth me told. Such is life and nothing that a little success can't remedy. That, I'm certain about. Now, introducing "Try".

Thanks for listening and hopefully the message is abundantly clear. Especially to my girlfriend. Don't bail.

Next up, a great clip from another talented Murphy Goode's "A Really Good Job" hopeful (like me and over 1000 others) and beautiful woman that frankly, I only know as @TashiCake (wonder what that means). Great clip, super theme, groovy blog.

I'll save my cork response for the next MGtv show perhaps. Tune the hell in and find out!

Cheers,

The David Ready Jr. Interview - An MGtv Exclusive

Whew! That's the sound of exhaling.

The votes are in and it's unanimous. I've done a really good(e) job with this last piece, "David Ready Jr. Interview - An MGtv Exclusive." I come to that conclusion based solely on the dozens of friendly replies and feedback since publishing that content earlier this morning.

Thanks so much to everyone who took almost 18 minutes out of their lifespan to hang out with me in a car driving down to drill Mr. Ready on all things Goode. Specifically "A Really Goode Job", which like hundreds of others, I am doing my absolute best and under often difficult circumstances to get.

If you too are an applicant for this gig then likely the last two clips are all you're interested in. That's where the "straight from the horses mouth" begins. If you are a fan, or simply appreciate story telling then by all means start at the beginning. It is there you'll get the most out of my experience that day and my vision.

New to town and country, I'm not by any means 'set up' here. Low on dough and without wheels, I've felt a bit like a loser on several occasions considering the residence of the State of California seem to be driven by money hungry peeps with expensive leased autos. As an Ameripean, I don't roll like that. At least not yet.

The only reason I managed to make it to Ralph's in Newport Beach last Friday was because the kid whose couch I'm currently surfing on was sick and did not go to work, thus his car was not being used. After promises of buying dinner and a pitcher of Newcastle for the next Lakers game he agreed to let me steer his silver bullet south. The rest, as we say, ist vergangenheit.

In this clip (2a) David Ready Jr. answers questions such as; Who had the original campaign idea? Who will make the final decision? Why the delay from the original schedule?
David Ready Jr. also clears up rumors that claimed he was not satisfied with applicants wine knowledge in general. Did you know David Ready Jr. is a mad Dead fan?

In this clip (2b)I ask David Ready Jr. who his favorite candidate for "A Really Goode Job" is thus far. Yes, he answered. No, it was not me. He also outlines what he's personally looking for. Ever seen a bottle signing before? For me it was a new concept and no one does it like Dave Ready Jr.

In closing, let me say thank you very much for you time and feedback. A special thanks to those who DM'd me with questions for Dave Ready Jr. that day. Given that the application is nearing an end, this MAY LIKELY be my last Vlog, since I do need to focus a bit on making a living sooner than later. But it does get kinda addicting. :) Worst case, it's back to the EU for some weeks to work straight through until I can afford to return. That would give me an excuse to meet the very talented woman behind one of my favorite GOODE SPOTS. Check out Andy's Goode Life Blog. She's was the first stranger to cheer me on and hasn't stopped since. Thanks girl! Hope we can work on a project together someday. Well, if anyone could win the MG gig without having a video it would have to be Andy. Respect.

On another note related to positive energy, interestingly enough there have been other video production offers which have come and might pan out to filling that new Chase bank account I opened last week. That would be sweet. And that's certainly a result of all of us making this thing so present online as of late. The net's a big space after all. So, thanks to all who encounter MGtv and leave not feeling worse for it. That's all I can hope for.

Wish me luck one way or another, would ya'! If you've not yet seen my original application video and would like to lend me your vote, do it this week please as Friday is the last day. Thanks again.

Now back to my red Firestone. It was cheaper than the MG. *wink*

Mo' Wine Please!

I did this wine tasting to show another potential side of MGtv and it was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon at that!
Interestingly enough, the wines you likely expected to experience in this show were not presented at the tasting.

Welcome To American Wine

As you may know I have returned to the United States from my European travels and to my surprise I've landed in strange, new territories.  Though one step closer to my ultimate destination, Sonoma Wine Country, I am still about 7 hours away by car!  I am sharing my new digs with a wonderful (though chaotic) soul named Warner Brown.  He's holding the microphone and I'm holding the guitar.

In fact, Warner told me about the "A REALLY GOODE JOB" opportunity in the first place, so I guess I need to thank him for all the extra work I've been doing as of late!  Thanks punk.

Warner's a fairly young kid who spends a lot of time out and about socializing and womanizing. What else should a handsome single guy with a good job be doing with his spare time, eh?  That and making great music and drinking GOODE wine. :)

When Warner picked me up at LAX (late but who's complaining) I couldn't help but notice the familiar colours and logo on the carton which was on his back seat.  And like Pavlov's Dog, my mouth started watering and after having been flying all day I was parched as it was.

As we neared the parked Japanese car the mysterious carton's colours and logo became unmistakably clear, it was indeed a Murphy Goode Wine case and I was a mere meter within reach of liquid ecstasy.

Dropping my bags on the ground I immediately thrust the rear door open and bolted for the case of Murphy Goode Wine, much like a Pirate would lunge for his booty.  Upon laying my sweaty palms on the case itself it didn't occur to me that this was the lightest case of wine I'd ever managed, particularly after lugging 100 pounds through airports all afternoon.  I peeled back the already opened cardboard container and in a blink of an eye my momentary bliss was debased to nothingness.  IT WAS EMPTY. Welcome to America.

Needless to say, my mood went from Yahoo! to Boohoo! in a couple seconds and all I wanted to do was go home.  Of course having no idea where home was to be, that was near impossible without Warner.  So, we loaded up the car and moved to Beverly.  Ok, not really.  Los Alamitos to be exact.

It was about 40 minutes later or so when we arrived at what I would be calling my new temporary home.  Apparently Warner moved in himself only one week before so I'm sure you can imagine what kind of shape the space is in at present.

Entering the flat in the living room (my bedroom) the kitchen is immediately on the left.  It's there that I spotted another chance for the Wine Gods to redeem themselves.  Yes, on the counter I could see the makings of a Murphy Goode bottle of wine.  I assume it spawned from the empty case in Warners car.  Was he simply teasing me?  No matter.  Now we drink.

Ditching my belongings on the fluffy floor (no carpets in my EU home) I quickly sauntered over to the kitchen where the Murphy Goode bottle and two empty glasses rested on the counter top.  I thought, how cool is he? Warner, that is, to prepare such a warm homecoming.  Those heartfelt thoughts of pleasantry quickly turned to vicious scorn as my stomach once again turned from the nauseating reality of my surroundings.  The Murphy Goode bottle of 2003 Wild Card Claret was empty.  Warner must die.

Welcome to America, again.

I Walk The Wine

Well, like the Whitesnake song says, "Here I go again on my own..."  It's always hard leaving home.  I've been doing it a lot lately and picking up once again tomorrow, Thursday May 20th.  So I wanted to get a posting in since I don't know when the next will happen.

The routine is as follows.  I pack a few things and head to the airport.  I fly somewhere like Los Angeles in hopes to find a good contract, gig, job or whatever you want to call it.  Work!  But guys like me, if we're honest, our work is like play that you have to do until it starts feeling like work.  Then you quit and do something else until that feels like work; then back and forth.  Acting, Hosting, Music seem to be my teetering points. Since the late eighties I've been at it.  Overnight success?  What's that?  I am definitely an aged wine if one were to use such a metaphor.

Ok, left you hanging on the routine breakdown.  That shapes up as follows; I generally stay until the money runs out.  End of routine.

Since spending so much of my adult life abroad and being quite established in Europe, I'm very little established in the United States by comparison.  One of the joys of working online which I have enjoyed since 1989 is it starts to matter less and less as more of the world get wired.  Yes, I'm one of the original Silicon Suckers having had one of the first 100 officially registered eCommerce sites.  Of course back then, it was essentially souped up mail order.

Murphy Goode TV episode 2 feat. Okrah Friendley Show

The Murphy Goode partnership is ideal as it would not only finance another chance at establishing a new life in the U.S., it would also provide me with a place to live while create entertaining content (my passion) enable me to bank some money, establish a little credit (our European status counts fer sheet) and after half a year I'd have a great leg to stand on.  If that weren't enough, it would ultimately enable my significant hottie to take the culture plunge and live a life as an American by my side.  I've not yet been able to provide that stability.  Lame, I know.  Three years of many periodical separations, sometimes several months at a time, has taken its toll on us.  Thank Goddess for Skype, that's all we can say.

So, I'm sure the position with Murphy Goode is just as important for many others for may other reasons however if you're not already giving a 100% while trying to get the job, then why should you get the job?  That's how I see it.  Well, that's my story and you know what, I'm stickin' to it.

Cheers,
Kamary

Number 384 - MGtv - Murphy Goode TV

It's come down to this, eh? I'm reduced to another number. Applicant number 384 trying to land A REALLY GOODE JOB, to be exact. Feels good to be counted, doesn't it? Thanks a bunch to the whole lot of folks that have written in by way of tweets and emails commenting positively and occasionally downright praising what I'm up to. Yahoo! That's so great to hear and I'm very much appreciative. It inspires me to do more.

My vision to virtually package and virally distribute the essence of Murphy Goode Winery and the lifestyle and entertainment from one of the hottest spots in California wine country, Sonoma County, gets closer to fruition. However, it's frustrating not actually being in Sonoma wine country at the present because I'm really geared up to air the show from the area as it's meant to be.

Instead I'm coming to you from Frankenland at the moment.
Think middle of Germany. Finding California wines, let alone a fine bottle of the Goode stuff, is utterly impossible. Luckily, I brought my own. It was a BYOMG tasting.

Thanks for your ongoing support for my original MGtv concept and I hope it becomes an official part of the Murphy Goode New Media arsenal come August 1st, then I can start sharing the sights and sounds of Sonoma wine country for real. As for the actual wine, you'll have to arrange that bit for yourselves folks. At least until someone's invented Full Senses Online Communication. When that time comes, count me in but don't be surprised when my browser's always open to Murphy Goode TV and some sexy site for grown-ups.

Cheers!

Quest For Goode

As you likely know, I'm presently not in the beloved wine country, that being Sonoma County.  I'm bumming around in the EU, something I do rather frequently and since being established over here to some degree, it's easy to find a place to crash.  I have my Masters in Couch Surfing.

I'm excited about all this Murphy Goode Wine business but cursing it at the same time.  I was just fine kicking back between gigs and enjoying the Netherlands for all it has to offer.  Then, I get turned on to A REALLY GOODE JOB offer by one of my wine distributor buddies in LA and MGW is an account of theirs. Needless to say, I've more than jumped on the opportunity, as have hundreds of other Murphy Goode hopefuls.  See for yourself by clicking here.

It's quite interesting just how many people don't seem to have read anything beyond $10k a month!  That steps on my grapes! Sure, maybe it adds to a little entertainment for anyone looking for something to tweet about, however it's just unnecessary clutter for the handful of serious players in this game which may ultimately leave some brilliant talent being looked over and missed completely.

With that worry in mind I've decided to share my favorites as I discover them and I'll post them here http://www.youtube.com/murphygoodetv.  Check back on occasion as the list grows and don't be shy, subscribe.

Welcome to Murphy Goode TV

As this is my first post to what I'm hoping will be a regular thing, I don't necessarily have a lot to share. However, I think it's important to shed some light on what I'm up to here. Introducing MURPHY GOODE TV! Or MGtv for twits & tweets.

Long story short, I'm living my current job pursuit here and offline. I will continue to do so, quitting at the earliest, June 5th, 2009. Yes. All of this is a job application, if you will. An audition. A try out with potential do-overs lasting all but 6 months. Could be the best 6 months...EVER! I fluttered an arm wildly whilst typing. That's how enthusiastic I am.

The future employer in question is Murphy Goode Winery, based in Sonoma California. They decided last month in April to create a new employment position with the title Murphy Goode Wine Country Correspondent. Sounded interesting enough and coincidentally, I happen to be a Wine Country Correspondent (because I say so) in another country.

Well it didn't take me long to load up the family (me, myself & I) and move to Beverly. Now I'm here to stay and it is my intention to be the first black Wine Country Correspondent in the continental United States. Where that actually begins and ends, don't ask me.

In their own words, this is apparently what I'm in for;
  • Exploring the vineyards of Murphy-Goode and surrounding areas and discovering what the Sonoma County Wine Country has to offer, from well-known destinations to off-the-beaten-path spots.
  • Tasting hundreds of wines and meeting the locals in our tasting room.
  • Increasing your wine wisdom: while studying isn’t required, our wine making and vineyard experts will take the time to show you how it’s all done.
  • Working with our winemaker, David Ready, Jr., to create a new wine commemorating your job with us.
  • Filing reports on your experiences, via weekly blogs, photo diaries, Twitter, Facebook, video updates and ongoing media interviews.

Yes I agree. It will be an incredible challenge and time (and your opinions likely) will only tell if I'm up for the gig. Let's give 100% awesomeness and make this thing work. In the end, everybody gets a buzz on.

Are you in?

K. Phillips, WCC
